James has extensive experience as an advocate in all South Australian Courts and Tribunals.

He has appeared regularly in the Federal Courts and many interstate Courts.  James practiced in New South Wales for 5 years of his career and is also well versed in that jurisdiction.  His experience and practical assistance to instructors and clients in matters goes well beyond his conduct of many hundreds of trials for a wide variety of parties on a great variety of topics.

As a solicitor, James practiced in rural and urban firms.  He previously prosecuted matters for several authorities including the South Australian and New South Wales Offices of the DPP, the military (holding the rank of Major) and state regulatory authorities.  James has attained qualifications in counselling, instruction and investigations along the way.  All of that experience and education is brought to bear in the matters that he regularly undertakes at all levels from Summary Courts to Courts of Appeal.

In recent years James has been selected by the Australian National University to instruct law graduates on legal practice skills and to coach advocacy for bar readers who are training to be barristers with the South Australian and Western Australian Bar Associations.  He is an Australian Bar Association accredited advocacy coach and is a co-convener of advocacy training courses.

James practices over a wide range of areas.  He welcomes briefs from those areas and looks forward to assisting you with his unique breadth of experience, practicality, professionalism and work ethic.  James is also pleased to receive briefs that require travelling to interstate, rural and remote areas (and with notice can provide CLE presentations in conjunctions with those matters).

His personal interests are farming, sustainable construction and classic motor vehicle restoration and modification.
